KAERCHER CREEK DAM

Located in Berks County at the eastern edge of Hamburg, Kaercher Creek Lake is a 31-acre impoundment owned by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and managed by the Fish and Boat Commission for public fishing and boating.

FISHING

This lake is designated as Stocked Trout Waters Open to Year-Round Fishing and is also is managed under Big Bass Program regulations. Commonwealth Inland Waters regulations apply for all other species of fish.

Trout are stocked prior to the spring opening day and also for winter fishing.

The Commission historically has stocked the lake with Muskellunge fingerling.

Fish habitat structures have been placed in the lake (view PDF map) over the years as part of the Commission's Fish Habitat Improvement Program.

BOATING

Boating is limited to boats powered by electric motors and un-powered boats. Three launch ramps are available along with associated parking facilities.

Un-powered boats may be moored at the lake in accordance with Commission property regulations. To be used at the lake, boats must be registered or have a valid launch permit (permits are issued by the Commission or PA Dept. of Conservation and Natural Resources).

OTHER AMENITIES AND MAINTENANCE

Because the property around Kaercher Creek Lake and Dam was previously operated as a county park, other amenities not related to fishing and boating, including walking trails, pavilions, and athletic fields may remain. Maintenance to these amenities is conducted through agreements with local community volunteers and/or organizations and is not funded by the PFBC using angler and boater dollars. Swimming is strictly prohibited at Kaercher Creek Lake and all other PFBC facilities.
